2017 Wedding Cake Trends: Woodsy

One of the hottest wedding cake trends for the rest of 2016 and 2017 in the Philadelphia area is the woodsy or woodland trend. Expect to see lots of cakes that look like birch or bamboo trees. Another take on this trend are cakes that feature bits of unexpected nature in them-think vines, twigs, or leaves.  For a whimsical take, use cake toppers that feature birds, owls, squirrels, foxes, and other woodland creatures. The cake stand can also play a big role in tying the look together-opt for moss or rustic wooden stands.  The whole look is very earthy and great for those wanting a rustic feel.

2017 Wedding Cake Trends: Naked Cakes

One of the hottest wedding cake trends for the rest of 2016 and 2017 in the Philadelphia area are naked cakes. By now, you’ve probably seen these cakes in wedding magazines. The idea is simple-a delicious cake with nearly none of the frosting that commonly adorns traditional cakes. With these cakes, you can see the actual cake. (Semi-naked cakes have more frosting on them.) They’re usually topped with fresh fruit like berries, flowers, or decorations like pinecones or leaves to adorn them. Whatever they’re topped with, the emphasis is on nature and the cake actually tasting great, not a decoration a baker spent 30 hours making.
